Ganderbal Police Conduct Joint Market Checking Drive in Kangan Ahead of Ramadhan

A joint market checking drive was conducted in Kangan market of Ganderbal district on Saturday to ensure fair trade practices and safeguard the interests of consumers during the holy month of Ramadhan, officials said.

Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Corner (KNC) that the drive was carried out by a team comprising officials from Ganderbal Police, the Executive Magistrate and the Food Safety Department.

During the drive, several food business establishments, including shops dealing with essential commodities and food items, were inspected to ensure compliance with government norms.

The checking teams examined the proper display of rate lists, quality standards of food items and hygienic conditions in the establishments, officials said.

They said shopkeepers and vendors were directed to strictly follow government regulations, maintain transparency in pricing and avoid overcharging customers.

The officials also advised them to ensure proper sanitation and hygiene while handling food products and to maintain cleanliness in their premises, particularly during the holy month when market activity witnesses a significant increase.

Meanwhile, the joint team warned that any violation of government norms, sale of substandard food items or overpricing will invite strict legal action as per law.

Police said such drives will continue across the district to ensure availability of quality essential commodities, maintain market discipline and protect consumer rights during Ramadhan. —(KNC)
