Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Wednesday said the Jammu and Kashmir government is prioritising employment generation, with nearly 30,000 posts referred and around 15,000 recruitments facilitated through various agencies over the past year.

He made the remarks while addressing a large public gathering at Kunzar in the Gulmarg constituency, in the presence of Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Gulmarg Peerzada Farooq Ahmad Shah, and senior officials.

Reiterating the government’s focus on youth employment, the Deputy Chief Minister said thousands of vacancies have been referred and filled on merit through recruitment agencies as part of sustained efforts to address unemployment in the Union Territory.

On the occasion, he distributed sanction letters, cheques, and keys of commercial vehicles among beneficiaries under the Mission Yuva scheme, highlighting that the initiative is strengthening the self-employment ecosystem and enabling youth to establish income-generating ventures.

He also urged people to register for labour cards to avail benefits including educational scholarships, financial assistance for specially-abled persons, and other welfare schemes.

Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the upgradation of the Kunzar–Hardshoora road, stating that multiple road projects in the region have been completed under NABARD, PMGSY, and other schemes, while several others are underway to improve connectivity.

Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and MLA Peerzada Farooq Ahmad Shah also addressed the gathering and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and youth empowerment across Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier in the day, the Deputy Chief Minister, along with MLA Tanvir Sadiq, also visited Gurdwara Damdama Sahib at HMT Srinagar and paid obeisance, acknowledging its significance as an important spiritual centre for devotees.
