On the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, 2025, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers held a tribute programme in Anantnag to honour the tourists who lost their lives in the tragic incident.
Senior BJP leader and Vice President Sofi Yousuf, along with party members, paid floral tributes to the 26 victims and led a march to express solidarity with their families. The programme was initially planned to be held at Baisaran in Pahalgam, but was shifted to Anantnag due to security concerns.
Addressing the gathering, Sofi Yousuf strongly condemned the attack, calling it an inhumane act and reiterating the party’s firm stand against terrorism. He said that such acts of violence have no place in society and must be opposed collectively.
He also raised slogans against Pakistan and blamed cross-border terror groups for attempting to disturb peace in the region. Yousuf stated that the attack was a big setback to humanity but added that the response of the people reflected unity and courage.
Highlighting the change in Kashmir, he said that the youth are now focused on peace and development and have rejected terrorism. He added that the people of the region stood together during the attack and made efforts to save tourists, showing the true spirit of humanity.
Yousuf assured that the victims would always be remembered and announced that the day will be observed every year in their memory.
The programme concluded with prayers for the departed souls and a pledge to continue the fight against terrorism while promoting peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
