Anantnag: In one of the largest anti-drug awareness campaigns held in South Kashmir, more than 50,000 people on Friday participated in the “Nasha Mukt Yatra Abhiyaan” in Anantnag, led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The mega rally reflected growing public support for the government’s mission to make Jammu and Kashmir drug-free.

The rally commenced from Shaheed Himayun Degree College near Dak Banglow and passed through various areas before culminating at Nai Basti, Anantnag, where a signature campaign against drug abuse was launched by the Lieutenant Governor along with MLAs, senior police officers, and civil administration officials.

Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that eliminating drug addiction is a collective responsibility and urged students, parents, teachers, religious scholars, civil society members, and youth organizations to actively participate in the fight against narcotics.

Speaking during the event, LG Manoj Sinha said that the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan” and the ongoing 100-day anti-drug campaign are showing positive signs toward achieving the goal of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir. He said the campaign initially started in Jammu, later expanded to Srinagar, and is now reaching every part of the Union Territory through mass public participation.

The Lieutenant Governor praised the efforts of Jammu and Kashmir Police in curbing drug trafficking and stated that strict action is being taken against major drug peddlers. He added that properties linked to drug smugglers are being attached and demolished as part of the crackdown. He further said that money generated through drug trafficking was also being used to support terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, making the fight against narcotics even more crucial for peace and stability.

Among those present during the yatra were Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, SSP Anantnag, senior police officers including the IGP Kashmir, government officials, legislators, and representatives from various social organizations.

The event concluded with a strong public pledge to work collectively for a healthier, safer, and drug-free society across Jammu and Kashmir.
