Anantnag police has intensified its anti-drug crackdown across the district, registering 120 NDPS cases and arresting 118 narcotic peddlers between April 11 and May 11, said SSP Anantnag Amod Ashok Nagpure during a press briefing.

The SSP said that more than 300 kilograms of contraband substances were seized during the month-long drive. He added that action has also been initiated against properties allegedly acquired through narcotics trade, with 14 such properties identified and attached under legal provisions.

Nagpure said that Anantnag Police has been conducting weekly CASO operations as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign. During inspections and raids at nearly 80 locations, several medical shops were found violating prescribed regulations. Joint operations carried out by police and drug enforcement agencies resulted in raids on around 45 medical stores, while 15 shops were sealed for alleged illegal activities.

He further stated that two narcotic hideouts constructed by drug peddlers for storing contraband substances were demolished during the operation. According to police, the hideouts were concrete structures built within residential premises to conceal drugs.

To strengthen investigations under the NDPS Act, specialized training is being imparted to 50 investigating officers, the SSP said. He also noted that individuals accused in narcotics cases are being denied security clearance for passports and government job verifications as part of stricter enforcement measures.

Highlighting public cooperation in the anti-drug campaign, Nagpure said police have received 533 calls on dedicated helpline and personal numbers shared for reporting drug-related activities. He said the response from the public has been encouraging and has significantly supported police efforts in curbing the drug menace in the district.
