Srinagar: The much-anticipated breakthrough of the Zojila Tunnel, one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure projects, is scheduled for 9 June 2026 marking a significant step toward achieving all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh.

Stretching approximately 13.15 kilometers the tunnel is being constructed beneath the formidable Zojila Pass in the Himalayas. Once completed, it is expected to become one of the longest bi-directional road tunnels in the region, transforming transportation, trade, tourism, and strategic mobility across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

The tunnel connects Baltal in Kashmir with Minamarg in Ladakh providing a reliable alternative to the Zojila Pass, which remains inaccessible for several months each year due to heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions.

Officials and stakeholders view the breakthrough as a landmark achievement in engineering and infrastructure development. The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Sonamarg and Drass enhance road safety, and ensure uninterrupted movement of people and essential supplies throughout the year.
