Documents, electronic gadgets recovered

JAMMU, Oct 4: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) today conducted raids at three places in the border district of Poonch in a narco-terror case and recovered some documents and electronic gadgets.

The raids were conducted in a case in which 30 kilograms heroin was seized followed by recovery of large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives in which five militants have been arrested so far in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.

Three persons whose houses were raided today have been identified as Mohammad Liaquat son of Mohammad Hussain, Safdar Hussain son of Mansoor Hussain and Mohammad Iqbal son of Saleem Din, all residents of Karmara in Poonch district.

As per the officials, some documents and electronic gadgets have been recovered during the raids. Raiding teams of the SIA were led by Inspectors Lakhbir Singh and Anil Kumar.
Few months back, police had recovered 30 kgs of heroin in Rajouri district. During seizure, it surfaced that the consignment was part of large scale narco-terror racket operating in Rajouri and Poonch districts and having roots in Pakistan and PoJK.

Subsequently, security forces arrested five militants involved in smuggling of narcotics and weapons from Pakistan through the Line of Control in Poonch. Large quantity of weapons were also recovered from their possession.
“The SIA teams were looking for certain evidence in the case for which the raids were planned,” the officials said, adding more raids in the case are expected in other areas.

The case of narco-terror nexus and funding is being investigated by a high-level team of the SIA.
Investigations have revealed that the terror operatives were being provided with narcotics and weapons by the Pakistani militants, which they smuggled from the LoC.

They used to hand over weapons to the militants and sell narcotics to drug dealers in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab and earn money.

Proceeds from the drugs were used to fund militancy in Jammu and Kashmir. A part of the profits was kept with them by the terror operatives.
