Frozen Power Canal Draws Tourists in Ganderbal

SRINAGAR, Dec 26: A frozen power canal outflow in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal area has become a popular winter attraction, drawing tourists eager to experience the region’s scenic beauty. Located just a few meters from Ganderbal’s main market, the canal is part of the Upper Sindh Hydro Power Project (USHP-II). Each winter, subzero temperatures freeze the canal, transforming it into a breathtaking sight.

Tourists, particularly those traveling to Sonamarg, often stop at the site to capture its mesmerizing visuals. The frozen sides of the canal, adorned with icicles, create a unique spectacle that attracts visitors, especially from regions with warmer climates.

Vidhi Shaw, a tourist from Rajasthan, shared her excitement: “I have never seen such a view, and I am loving it. We do not experience such cold or frozen landscapes in Rajasthan. It’s extremely cold, but we’re enjoying every moment.”

The frozen canal has become a highlight for tourists, offering them a glimpse of Kashmir’s winter charm and further boosting the area’s appeal as a travel destination. “We were heading towards Sonamarg but were stunned to see this beautiful scene. We stopped here to take some mandatory pictures,” another visitor, Karanjeet Singh, said.
