J&K Government Bans 25 Books Citing Promotion of Secessionism, Terrorism

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has declared 25 books as forfeited, citing their alleged role in promoting false narratives, secessionism, and radicalization among youth in the region.

As per a notification, a copy of which lies with The KashPost, the government stated that credible intelligence and investigation findings point to a concerted effort by certain literature to distort historical facts, glorify terrorism, vilify security forces, and incite violence against the Indian state. The notification underscores concerns that such publications play a significant role in shaping a culture of grievance, victimhood, and terrorist heroism among the youth in Jammu and Kashmir.

The government emphasized that these books have contributed to the radicalization process through systematic dissemination of secessionist ideologies, often disguised as historical or political commentary. It further noted that these texts have endangered national sovereignty and integrity, thereby violating Sections 152, 196, and 197 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

“In exercise of powers under Section 98 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, the publication of 25 books listed in Annexure ‘A’ stands declared as forfeited to the Government,” the notification reads.
