A local militant affiliated with Al-Badr outfit was killed in an encounter in Hawoora village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday early hours, police said.
Acting on a specific input regarding the presence of a militant in village Hawoora area of Kulgam, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by J&K Police, Army (1st RR) and CRPF (18 Bn) in the said area”, said a police spokesperson in a statement issued to Asian News Hub.
“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militant fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, in which one J&K policeman got injured who was subsequently shifted to hospital for treatment.”
The hiding militant, the spokesperson said, was also given an opportunity to surrender, however he kept on firing on the joint forces. The fire was effectively retaliated, leading to an encounter.
In the ensuing encounter, a local militant linked with proscribed militant outfit Al-Badr was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. He has been identified as Adil Majeed Lone son of Abdul Majeed Lone resident of Akbarabad Hawoora, Kulgam”, the spokesperson said.
“Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 Pistol with live ammunition and a Grenade were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.”
“In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any,” the spokesman added.
