Shubman Gill, the promising Indian opener, made his way to Ahmedabad On October 12 (Thursday), ahead of the highly anticipated ODI World Cup clash against Pakistan on October 14 (Saturday). After missing the first two World Cup matches against Australia and Afghanistan, Gill’s return was documented in a video that went viral on social media as he landed at the Ahmedabad airport to join his teammates.
When a group of reporters in the video asked Gill about his involvement in the face off between the arch-rivals, he chose to remain silent. His participation in the Pakistan fixture set to happen in Ahmedabad was under the cloud of uncertainty as he has been battling dengue fever, which prompted him to be hospitalised in Chennai, forcing him out of both of India’s World Cup matches so far.

While the 24-year-old has shown signs of improvement, it remains unclear as to whether he will feature in the contest. Following a night’s stay at a private hospital in Chennai, he returned to his hotel and subsequently took a flight to Ahmedabad.
Officials from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) informed Cricbuzz that the hospital’s doctors had cleared Gill for air travel. He had initially been unable to accompany his teammates to Delhi due to a low platelet count.
“Gill is doing absolutely fine and is set to leave Chennai for Ahmedabad today. It is still not clear whether Gill will have a light training session at Motera on Thursday. His recovery has been fine but we can’t really be sure if he can play against Pakistan,” an anonymous BCCI source told India Today.
In Gill’s absence, Team India has relied on Ishan Kishan to open the batting along with Rohit Sharma with Shreyas Iyer batting in the middle order.
