Srinagar: Shooting stones caused disruptions in one-way traffic near Mehar on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on Wednesday. Additionally, single-lane road stretches in the Nashri to Banihal sectors affected traffic flow during the day.
Officials said that despite intermittent stonefall in the Mehar-Cafeteria area of Ramban, the highway remained open. However, traffic moved slowly due to breakdowns of heavy vehicles and single-lane conditions at various points.
“Light vehicles were redirected through the Ramban old alignment road to avoid the affected stretch,” an official said.
The rolling stones continued into the evening, prompting officials to advise caution to commuters.
The J&K Traffic Police Department issued a fresh advisory, allowing one-way traffic from Nagrota-Jammu to Kashmir on Thursday, subject to fair weather and road conditions.
“Cut-off timings were set for Srinagar-bound light vehicles, with heavy vehicles permitted up to 6 pm after a stop at Jakhani-Udhampur. No vehicles would be allowed past the cut-off timings,” the department said.
