Khurshid Padroo, Umaisar Gull Elected to Lead KWJA; Association Vows to Safeguard Journalists’ Rights

Kulgam :The Kulgam Working Journalists Association (KWJA) on Tuesday elected a new executive body, reaffirming its resolve to protect the rights of journalists and strengthen the media fraternity in the district.

The election, held at Town Hall Kulgam, witnessed active participation from journalists across the district. According to the election committee, senior journalist Khurshid Padroo was elected as the 8th President of the association, while Umaisar Gull was unanimously chosen as the General Secretary.

Formed in 2007—when Kulgam was declared a separate district—KWJA has consistently worked to promote professionalism, ethics, and collaboration within the local media ecosystem.

The association announced that an oath-taking ceremony will be organized soon in Kulgam, where the newly elected office-bearers will be formally inducted.

The new leadership pledged to address challenges faced by working journalists, promote ethical reporting, and ensure a conducive environment for free and responsible journalism.

KWJA also extended a warm welcome to new members from the district, stating that membership is open to those affiliated with registered media organizations.

Journalists from across Kulgam appreciated the election organizing committee for ensuring a transparent and democratic electoral process, calling it a significant step toward empowering the local media community.
