Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment and National President of the Republican Party of India (A), Ramdas Athawale , on Monday criticized the Congress party for opposing the Women’s Reservation Bill, terming it a major setback to women’s empowerment in the country.
Addressing a public rally in Malwan area of Kulgam, Athawale said such opposition undermines efforts aimed at ensuring greater political representation for women. He further remarked that the Congress would face consequences for its stance, adding that there could be agitation over the rejection of the bill.
While speaking at the rally, Athawale praised the natural beauty, climate, and scenic landscape of Kashmir, describing it as one of the most attractive regions in the country. He said that areas like Malwan in Kulgam have immense tourism potential and assured that he would take up the matter with the Tourism Minister to include the region in the list of prominent tourist destinations. He also stressed the need for better road connectivity to boost tourism and improve accessibility.
Highlighting developments in Jammu and Kashmir, Athawale stated that the region has witnessed significant progress since the abrogation of Article 370, with improved infrastructure and growing opportunities for the people.
The Union Minister emphasized that justice would be ensured for the Muslim community, stressing the need to address the issue of reservations for Muslims. He called for equitable opportunities, improved infrastructure, and inclusive development for all sections of society. He also assured that efforts would be made to tackle unemployment and create better job opportunities for the youth.
Speaking on the delimitation process, Athawale said it would prove beneficial for Jammu and Kashmir by increasing the number of seats, thereby expanding political representation in the Union Territory.
