Kulgam Police Bust Inter-State Drug Network; Property Worth ₹92.73 Lakh Attached in Jammu

Kulgam: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Kulgam Police have busted an inter-state drug network and attached illegally acquired property worth ₹92.73 lakh at Beli Charana in Jammu.

The operation began on March 20, 2026, when a police team from Police Station Qazigund, during routine patrolling at Kurigam near Railway Station Qazigund, apprehended a suspect identified as Mohammad Rafiq Mir of Panzinara, Srinagar. During search, around 16 grams of heroin were recovered from his possession.

Following the recovery, FIR No. 43/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act was registered, and investigation was initiated.

During questioning, the accused revealed that the contraband was sourced from Bagh Hussain Kasana, a resident of Channore Basti Gajansu, Jammu, presently residing at Nikki Tawi. Acting on the disclosure, police obtained a search warrant and conducted a raid at the suspect’s residence, leading to the recovery of 265 grams of a heroin-like substance.

Subsequently, Section 29 of the NDPS Act was added to the case, and the accused Bagh Hussain Kasana was arrested on March 22, 2026. He is currently lodged in District Jail Anantnag.

Investigations revealed that the accused was involved in inter-state drug trafficking and was supplying narcotics to various parts of the Kashmir Valley for financial gains. Police also found that he had no legitimate source of income and had been engaged in drug peddling for a considerable period.

A financial probe conducted by SHO Qazigund under the supervision of senior officers led to the identification and attachment of immovable assets acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking at Beli Charana, Jammu.

The attached assets include land valued at approximately ₹71.52 lakh and a residential house worth ₹21.21 lakh, taking the total to ₹92.73 lakh.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary, said the police are committed to dismantling drug networks and taking strict action against those involved in narcotics trade, including facilitators and financiers. He appealed to the public, especially youth, to stay away from drugs and urged citizens to share any information related to drug trafficking, assuring confidentiality.

Police reiterated their resolve to eradicate drug menace and sought public cooperation in building a drug-free society.
