Kulgam:In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Kulgam Police dismantled a major narcotics network by arresting three individuals, including a key kingpin, and recovering 202 grams of heroin along with cash.
Acting on specific intelligence, police learned that two persons Hilal Ahmad Ganai of Kanispora, Baramulla, and Parvaz Ahmad Bhat of Wagoora, Baramulla were involved in smuggling heroin from Banihal towards Qazigund via NH-44 for distribution among local youth.
Following the input, Police Station Qazigund registered FIR No. 108/2026 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and launched an investigation. A naka was established at Choimulla under the supervision of SHO Qazigund Manav Dhanetiya (IPS Probationer). The suspected vehicle (Baleno) was intercepted, leading to the arrest of the duo and recovery of 50 grams of heroin-like substance. The vehicle was also seized.
During sustained investigation, police established backward linkages and identified the main supplier as Sadiq Hussain alias Showki of Rakh Barothian, Vijaypur in Samba district. Acting on a court-issued search warrant, a joint team of Qazigund Police and Samba Police conducted a raid at his residence and apprehended him.
A search of the premises, particularly a stable, led to the recovery of an additional 152 grams of heroin and ₹52,000 in cash.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the accused kingpin was running a well-organized drug network across Jammu and Kashmir, supplying narcotics to a wide clientele on a daily basis. Police said further investigation is underway, and more arrests and recoveries are expected.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of SDPO Qazigund Mansoor Ayaz (JKPS) and Additional SP NHW Mumtaz Ali Bhatti (JKPS).
SSP Kulgam Anayat Ali Chowdhary (IPS) appealed to the public, particularly the youth, to stay away from drugs and urged parents to remain vigilant. He also called on citizens to share information about drug-related activities, assuring confidentiality and strict action against offenders.
Police reiterated their commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking from the district.
