Srinagar :In a strong religious advisory, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, the Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, has called upon the Muslim population of the Valley to strictly avoid consuming or selling meat products that may not comply with Islamic halal standards.
The Grand Mufti emphasized that earning money through the sale of haram (forbidden) food items is strictly prohibited in Islam and must be stopped immediately. He criticized the local administration for its failure to proactively address the issue, urging authorities to act swiftly against those involved in the illegal meat trade.
“There is no justification for consuming or selling food that is not halal. It is haram and unacceptable under any circumstances,” he said in a public statement.
Mufti Nasir specifically advised the public to refrain from eating Momos and to only purchase dressed chicken and other meat products from trusted outlets, such as Kahab Malika, where the halal status of the meat can be fully verified. He also cautioned against buying from vendors whose meat supplies have been confiscated or are under suspicion.
The Grand Mufti called on the Food Control Department to establish an inspection post at Lakhanpur in Jammu to thoroughly check meat and food items entering the Valley. He warned that some traders may be smuggling non-halal meat by hiding it among fish consignments.
Additionally, he raised concerns about the sale of counterfeit medicines in the market, urging people to remain alert and for authorities to take strict action. He concluded by appealing to Imams and khateebs to raise awareness during Friday sermons, so that the public can better distinguish between halal and haram in everyday life.
