SRINAGAR: The Adani Foundation has granted Rs 70 lakh to Amir Hussain Lone, a para-cricketer and brand ambassador of Aryans Group of Colleges, Chandigarh, to establish a cricket academy for underprivileged youth in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag, media reports said.
Amir, who lost both arms in an accident at age eight, has pursued cricket with determination. He plays using his legs to bowl and his shoulder and neck to bat. He has been playing professional para-cricket since 2013 and has participated in tournaments in Afghanistan, Nepal, and the UAE.
Earlier this year, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani acknowledged Amir’s dedication and pledged support. The Foundation’s grant will fund an indoor cricket facility in Waghama, Anantnag, helping Amir realise his goal of opening a cricket academy. The academy will provide free training to local children.
Amir expressed gratitude to the Adani Group, including Gautam Adani, Preeti Adani, and Jeet Adani, for their support. “My simple message for assistance received a reply from Gautam Adani sir, who encouraged me to pursue my dream of opening Amir Cricket Academy,” he said.
“The academy will charge no fees and will be free for all,” Amir added.
Currently pursuing higher education at Aryans, Amir has gained recognition from cricket icons and celebrities. Sachin Tendulkar invited him to bowl the inaugural ball at the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL).
