In a shocking incident, a large quantity of medicines worth lakhs of rupees was found dumped in a forest canal in the Gundrehman area of Ganderbal district.
The discovery was made by local residents, who spotted boxes and strips of medicines scattered in the canal. Concerned about the environmental and health implications, the locals immediately informed the media. Following the media coverage, a team from the Drug Control Department, Ganderbal, reached the site and conducted a detailed inspection.
Inspector Bilal Ahmad from the Drug Control Department, speaking to The KashPost, said:
“We have initiated an investigation. Samples have been collected, and efforts are underway to trace the origin of these medicines. Strict action will be taken against those found responsible.”
The illegal dumping of such a large stock of medicines has raised serious concerns regarding the handling and disposal of expired or surplus pharmaceuticals. The incident poses a significant threat to both the environment and public health, particularly in relation to drinking water sources.
Local residents have expressed outrage and demanded a thorough probe into the matter.
“This is not just the loss of expensive medicines—it’s a serious risk to our environment and water supply,” a local resident told The KashPost.
Authorities have assured the public that strict measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future and that those responsible will be held accountable.
