In a continued effort to eradicate the roots of drug abuse and ensure a safer, drug-free society, the Ganderbal Police today carried out a large-scale destruction drive of wild cannabis (Bhung) cultivation in Batwina and Khanpora and adjoining areas falling under the jurisdiction of Police Post Shadipora.

The operation was conducted under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS). The drive was personally led by the DO Police Post Shadipora, Mr. Irfan, along with a team of dedicated police personnel. Notably, the campaign also witnessed active participation from local youth, reflecting a growing awareness and collective resolve among the community to fight the drug menace.

The police team systematically identified and destroyed large patches of wild cannabis plants that are often misused for the extraction of narcotic substances. The initiative is part of a broader district-wide campaign to eliminate illegal narcotic cultivation and promote public health and safety.

Speaking on the occasion D.O Shadipora reiterated the department’s zero-tolerance policy toward any activity linked to narcotic substances and emphasized continued public engagement.

The Ganderbal Police once again appeals to the public to report individuals or landowners involved in the illegal cultivation of cannabis or poppy. Informants can rest assured that their identity will be kept strictly confidential, and strict legal action will be taken against the offenders under the NDPS Act.

During the drive, locals expressed deep gratitude to Ganderbal Police, particularly appreciating the efforts of DO Shadipora Mr. Irfan for spearheading the campaign with determination and sincerity.
They also extended special thanks to journalist Umar Showket, whose consistent reporting and public awareness efforts played a key role in bringing the issue to the forefront and prompting swift administrative action.

This drive marks yet another step forward in the ongoing war against drugs, reinforcing law enforcement’s resolve to make the district safer, healthier, and free from the clutches of substance abuse.
