Srinagar Police Initiates Legal Action Against Online Provocation and Misinformation Amid Rising Tensions

Srinagar: In response to a surge in provocative and misleading content circulating on social media, the Srinagar Police has launched a formal investigation and initiated legal proceedings against individuals allegedly involved in spreading misinformation that threatens national security and public order.

Credible intelligence sources have flagged a coordinated effort by unidentified individuals to disseminate fabricated narratives and sensitive information, particularly during the current escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan. According to preliminary findings, these posts are not only factually distorted but also contain unauthorized disclosures related to covert operations, potentially serving the interests of hostile entities.

Authorities have identified three individuals believed to be key actors in this operation:

Inayat Hussain Rather, S/o Mohammad Ibrahim Rather, R/o Shalina Near Masjid Sharief Pampore Rather Arif, S/o Gh Nabi Rather, R/o Wanpora Anantnag Sheikh Umar Farooq, S/o Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, R/o Ichgam Budgam

A case has been registered under FIR No. 14/2025 at Police Station Shergarhi under sections 197(1)(d) and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have begun a thorough investigation aimed at apprehending the accused and curbing the dissemination of harmful content.

In a statement, Srinagar Police urged the public to exercise caution and avoid circulating unverified information. They also encouraged citizens to report any suspicious content or activity to the relevant authorities.

“Srinagar Police is fully committed to safeguarding peace, unity, and the security of all residents,” the statement read, adding that anyone found engaging in or supporting unlawful activities will face strict legal consequences.
