Aijaz Malik (JKPS) on Saturday formally assumed charge as Superintendent of Police (SP), Sham, marking a significant administrative step for the newly created district.
On his arrival at Liker, he was warmly received by Inspector Skarma Angchuck. A traditional welcome was also accorded en route to Khaltse by Naib Tehsildar Phuntsog Namgail along with local residents.
Several prominent individuals were present on the occasion, including former councillors Lobzang Sherab (Khaltse) and Dr. Murup Dorjay (Lamayuru). Representatives of various local bodies and associations, including President LBA Sham Tsering Nurboo, BJP Sham President Konchok Stak, President Nambardar Association Sham Tsering Stobdan, and President Women Alliance Sham Tsering Tsomo, besides Nambardars and residents from different villages, extended their welcome.
A ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented by Ladakh Police, followed by an official programme at Police Station Khaltse.
The appointment comes in the wake of the recent notification declaring Sham as a separate district, one among five newly created districts aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and improving public service delivery at the grassroots level.
After assuming charge, SP Malik congratulated the residents on achieving district status and stressed the importance of maintaining law and order, strengthening public safety, and promoting people-friendly policing. He also highlighted the need to create opportunities for youth and reaffirmed his commitment to making the district exemplary in policing and public service.
