White Cotton Fluff Triggers Health Concerns in Ganderbal, Residents Seek Urgent Action

Share:

Residents of Ganderbal have raised serious concerns over the increasing spread of white cotton-like fluff from seasonal trees, alleging that the airborne particles are causing allergies, breathing issues, and other health-related problems across the district.

According to locals, the cotton-shedding trees found along roadsides, residential areas, and public spaces have become a major nuisance during the ongoing season. People said the fluffy particles continue to spread rapidly through the air, entering homes, schools, markets, and offices, making daily life difficult for many residents.

Elderly citizens, children, and patients suffering from asthma and respiratory ailments are reportedly the worst affected. Several families have complained of persistent coughing, throat irritation, sneezing, eye allergies, and breathing discomfort due to the continuous exposure to the airborne fluff.

Residents said the issue is not confined to Ganderbal alone, as similar complaints are emerging from different parts of the Kashmir Valley where seasonal pollen and cotton-like particles are affecting public health.

Locals have appealed to the concerned departments and municipal authorities to take immediate preventive measures, including scientific management or removal of such trees, to minimize the spread of allergens and protect people from health hazards.

Meanwhile, health experts have advised people, particularly children, elderly citizens, and allergy patients, to avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak hours, wear masks when needed, and seek medical consultation in case of severe allergy or breathing-related symptoms.(KNC)
