Residents of Dab Shallhar Demand Relocation of Diesel Irrigation Pump for Better Water Access

Share:

Residents of the Dab Shallhar area in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have appealed to the district administration to relocate the proposed diesel irrigation pump being installed along the Jhelum River, saying the current location would not adequately serve the farming community.

According to locals, the pump is presently being installed at the tail end of the area, which they claim would benefit only a limited portion of agricultural land.

They stressed that shifting the pump to the midpoint of the locality would ensure equal and effective irrigation facilities for farmers across the entire area.

The residents said agriculture is the primary source of livelihood in the locality and proper irrigation is essential for sustaining crops during the ongoing farming season.

They expressed concern that the existing plan may deprive many farmers of adequate water supply.

The locals have urged the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and the Executive Engineer of the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department, Ganderbal, to personally look into the matter and take necessary steps to relocate the pump in the larger interest of the farming community.(KNC)
