Relief to Doda legislator; court sets aside preventive detention order after habeas corpus plea
The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has quashed the Public Safety Act (PSA) detention of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Mehraj Malik, granting major relief to the legislator who had been under preventive custody since September last year.
Details available with news agency Kashmir News Corner—KNC that the court set aside the detention order after hearing a habeas corpus petition challenging his detention under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act.
Malik, who represents Doda constituency and heads the AAP’s J&K unit, was detained on September 8, 2025, over allegations of activities prejudicial to public order and was subsequently lodged in Kathua district jail.
The petition had been heard on multiple dates, and the court had reserved its verdict on February 23 after completion of arguments from both sides.
With the detention order now quashed, Malik is expected to be released after completion of legal formalities, unless required in connection with any other case, sources said. (KNC)
