National Conference Secures First Win in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections

Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections progress, the National Conference (NC) is demonstrating a robust performance across various constituencies, particularly in the Anantnag district. Early results indicate that multiple NC candidates are leading, showcasing a strong local support base.

In Anantnag, Peerzada Mohammad Syed is currently leading with 1,760 votes, while Abdul Majeed Bhat is ahead in Anantnag West, commanding a significant 4,483 votes. Another prominent candidate, Sakeena Masood, is performing exceptionally well in D.H Pora, having secured 5,761 votes. These results underscore NC’s stronghold in the region and its ability to mobilize voters effectively.

In Devsar, NC candidate Peerzada Feroze Ahmad leads with a margin of 983 votes. The Indian National Congress (INC) is also showing competitive results, particularly with G.A. Mir leading in Dooru with an impressive 11,206 votes. This indicates a closely contested election, as both parties vie for control of the assembly.

The Kulgam constituency is witnessing a different dynamic, with M.Y. Tarigami from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) leading at 1,997 votes. Meanwhile, NC’s Zafar Ali Khatana is ahead in the Kokernag (ST) constituency with 3,589 votes, and Altaf Ahmad Wani is leading in Pahalgam with 4,486 votes. In Anantnag East, Reyaz Ahmad Khan leads with 4,371 votes, while Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri also secures a lead in Bijbehara with 4,334 votes.

The election results suggest that the National Conference is well-positioned to make significant gains in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, reflecting a resurgence of local support. The party’s strategic campaigning and grassroots efforts appear to resonate with voters in this crucial region.

In a notable victory, Nazir Gurezi from the NC has emerged victorious in the Gurez constituency, defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Faqir Khan by a margin of 1,049 votes. Gurezi secured 8,095 votes against Khan’s 7,046, highlighting NC’s growing influence in traditionally contested areas.

As of now, the overall picture of the assembly elections shows the National Conference leading on 40 seats, while the BJP is ahead on 27 seats. The Indian National Congress trails with leads on 8 seats, followed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at 5 seats and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (JKPC) at 3 seats. Other parties are collectively leading on 7 seats, indicating a fragmented political landscape.
