Demolition Drive in Sonamarg a Routine Process, No Political Interference: CEO SDA

Sonamarg, Jan 30: The Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) has reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against illegal constructions in the stating that demolition drives are a routine process aimed at maintaining the ecofragile environment of the tourist destination. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SDA, G. M. Bhat, emphasized that the law applies equally to all and that no one involved in violations can be spared

CEO G.M Bhat said, “The demolition drive against unauthorized constructions in Sonamarg is a routine process. Anyone violating the regulations will face action as per the law. There is no political vendetta and we are committed to maintain the beauty and ecological balance of Sonamarg.”

He further stated that all cases of irregularities and violations have been forwarded to the government for appropriate decision. Rejecting any allegations of favoritism, he made it clear that the SDA functions purely as a government body responsible for preserving Sonamarg and ensuring its development in a sustainable If anyone has proper permission for construction, they will not be stopped. However, unauthorized structures will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” Bhat asserted.

Sonamarg, one of Kashmir’s premier tourist destinations, has faced increasing concerns over illegal encroachments that threaten its natural beauty. The authorities have been conducting regular inspections and demolition drives to curb unauthorized constructions.

The SDA has urged locals and businesses to adhere to regulations and obtain proper permissions before undertaking any construction activities. The drive, according to officials, will continue to ensure Sonamarg remains a well-regulated and eco-friendly tourist hub.
